Great staff busy or slow! Food is always on point!

My wife and I have been coming to La Carreta for over 20 years. I saw some one-star reviews about the service. Over the years there have been a small number of servers that were less than perfect but overwhelmingly the staff has been outstanding. Even the few that weren't the best waiters were still very friendly. Anyone who had poor service, please don't let that form your opinion, it doesn't happen very often. This is a family run restaurant and they take pride in their customer relations.The food is what has kept us coming back for decades. I've had everything on the menu many times and it's always been consistently the same: delicious. The chips are homemade and fresh, crisp and not oily. The salsa is exceptional and could be marketed on a national scale (though it wouldn't be the same). The portions are large but taste so good I never have leftovers. I can't say enough good things, this is our favorite restaurant in all of San Diego.

Love this place. I'm a fat ass and love Mexican food. This place has great food, good prices, and the service is an A plus. You wont regret eating here.

The food was good and the service was fantastic. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals so much we came back again during our time in California. Our server, JR, took great care of us. The food was so appetizing I forgot to take pictures of our meals, lol. The desserts I had were churros and the bunuelo. Both delicious

Delish chicken tortilla soup!

Great food great drinks. Great service from Shalyn, Junior and of course Leo. I love the chicken wings, carne asada and Chipoltle Chicken Salad. Also the fajita burrito. yummy. Leo is making this place one of my favorites. Thank you Leo.

Great service and bomb jalapeno margaritas

Never going back. So I went there last week and had the steak. (Carne Asada) It was very tender and cooked perfect! So I thought I would come in again. As a matter of fact, I was looking forward to coming again because the steak was great. So about a week later I ordered the steak again same way as last time- medium rare. And it came to the table raw! It was red! No big deal right? So I told bartender to please cook this steak a little bit longer. (Keyword: little bit) When he brought it back it was totally cremated. It was like a bad dream. Server was hiding. I should have just walked out. It was tough, overcooked and a totally different experience than the other time. I guess it is what it is. Poor service and random results. Also, no soap in bathroom but there was some kind of hand sanitizer? Odd. Also, that place could use some serious AC! It was about 95 degrees inside, I strongly recommend Tapitio's or Minyanas just down the road... Thank you.

Usually I love going here. Sadly today I did not. When we first walked in for lunch, and it was not busy at all, the new hostess/server was rude and continued to be rude the entire time. She did not make us feel welcome or wanted at all. She huffed when we went to seat ourselves, and protested when I chose a table that she didn't want me to sit at. She was very short with us and seemed irritated by our presence. She did not bring us what we asked for even though we asked her twice and she said she would. Again it was not busy. There was literally one other customer in the entire place. Thank God we had a different person come to take our order, because we all wanted to leave due to that woman's distastefulnes toward us. Our waiter, however was very nice and polite like we have been accustomed to in the past. I certainly hope the new girl gets her act together or leaves. If not, they will lose a lot of customers.

Great food and Atmosphere..

The staff here was so kind. I made a special request to send my great aunt some of her favorite salsa from this restaurant and have it sent to Northern California. She received it the next day and it brought her so much joy. I will never forget this place. Not to mention the food was amazing. My favorite Asada burrito I ever had in SolCal. A must try if you're in the area. Let them Know AJ sent you.

This place is not skimpy on the cheese! These service is attentive. The facility is clean. The chips are fresh fried and the salsa is mild and delicious. I held back a star only because I was hoping for something a bit more authentic. But, I could easily give this place 5 stars as everything served was exactly as described.

Great dining experience! The food was excellent, and the service was wonderful. This was the first time that we went to this restaurant, and we were pleasantly surprised. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, then this is the place for you!

Love this place! It's mellow and the food is great!

Pretty mediocre experience. The food took nearly an hour and a half to get there. The wait staff was nice, but pretty inattentive. When we did get the food, it was fine, but not great. I definitely wouldn't say it was bad, but there are much better places in Alpine.

The best Mexican food in east county. Absolutely worth the drive the food is excellent and is ALWAYS the same, consistently great is hard to come by in family restaurants. Must try.

My husband and I went to La Carreta Mexican Restaurant for dinner. I had the dinner that came with a beef taco and rice and beans plus a cup of abondigas soup that is really good. I love the beef taco and the beans are always so good to dunk your chips in. My husband ordered a dish of crab enchiladas with a yummy avocados sauce that was warm and so delicious. I also had a blended margarita which I always get when I go there. We always like the salsa and chips too. Service is always quick and friendly love this restaurant.

It took 5 minutes to be seated, no one was visible. Server took our orderand didn't let me finish ordering she walked off before I could say the last part . When she came back to drop off the food she dropped it off and took off, I actually had to say HEY! For her to finish taking my order

This place never fails to impress. They have awesome dishes for fair prices, there is no waiting time even when the spot is full.
